MEET STEVE

I started working out when I was 16, weighing in at 140 lbs and nearly 6' tall. A skinny kid with a mission to change my body and bulk up, I ended up changing my entire life and finding my true passion.

Seeing the changes and results - both physically and mentally - felt incredible. So, my next mission became to empower others to do the same.

I have spent the last 15 years educating myself on the fundamentals and latest training techniques, which has given me the knowledge to create and customize fitness programs based on my clients' individual needs.

Everyone has the potential to reach their fitness goals. Let me help you reach yours.

WHO I AM

Like you, I have many roles. I am a family man, entrepreneur, fitness coach, and personal trainer.

As a husband and new father, maintaining a good work/life balance is very important to me. I love spending time with my family whether it's going for walks with our English Bulldog, Bacon, watching movies or making a delicious dessert together.

As much as I love my family, I am one of the lucky few who can actually say that I love my job, too. And I look forward to seeing my clients every day. Their dedication and progress is what inspires me to do what I do and to constantly keep growing professionally so that I can in turn, impart that knowledge onto them.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE

A few years ago, I went on an all-inclusive Caribbean vacation. While I was there I basically had a 'cheat week' and ate whatever I felt like. But having been on a super strict diet for a long time, this sent my body into serious shock and I ended up getting really sick. So sick that my body weight dropped to 55kg/122 lbs. I was hospitalized and evaluated by several doctors but they couldn't determine anything physically wrong with me, ultimately concluding it was a reaction to introducing a lot of variety of food after years of monotonous diet.

My lesson? Moderation is key! And this would be at the core of my efforts moving forward.

I realized that nutrition and fitness do go hand in hand but not to the extent I had taken it. So I slowly began changing my diet and working out again after a 6 month hiatus. No longer eating only chicken, rice and broccoli, instead adding variety and more cheat days I was able to rebuild muscle and bring my weight back up. I’ve never felt better.

Being confronted with adversity forced me to re-evaluate my approach to fitness. It taught me to appreciate and look at it through a completely different lens. It reminded me to never stop evolving based on my needs. And it has shaped the way I design my clients' programs.

THE STVKFIT DIFFERENCE :

Trainers are a dime a dozen these days. They have qualifications. I have qualifications. They offer a range of services. So do I. But there are two important things that set me apart.

1. I believe training is a partnership that should be fun, not something that feels like a chore.  Making the commitment to your fitness and well being is a big deal – both from a time and financial standpoint. You are dedicating a lot and you have high expectations. So let’s make it fun. My goal is to make sure you understand the exercise, you’re able to do it correctly, and you feel constantly motivated. But most importantly, you need to actually ENJOY it– at the end of the day, this is what will keep you motivated. Our time together should feel like a partnership – I am here for support, motivation and technique, and I promise there will be lots of jokes and laughs along the way.

2. Moderation is key! Yes, moderation entails hard work and dedication but I don't believe you need to go to extreme measures to achieve your ideal body and lifestyle. I also don’t believe in any miracle “5-minute to dream abs” type of “workouts”. And neither should you. Those buzzword-ridden, clickbait ‘workouts’ ultimately fail to deliver results, leaving you feeling dissatisfied on so many levels. Training is not a one-size fits all thing. Some people aspire to get shredded, others simply to tone, and some to lose a substantial amount of weight. Because everyone's body is different, their abilities and goals are different, there is no one single solution. But across the board, moderation is key. The program I design for you will be based on your unique body, abilities and goals, and will strike the right balance that will allow you to eat what you love while getting in shape.
